This Week in NoVa

Thursday, June 11, 2026

Summer has officially taken hold, and this week leans hard into the season's best move: getting outside, ideally with live music in earshot and something cold in your hand. Saturday is the marquee day — Arlington's Columbia Pike Blues Festival, Vienna's Juneteenth parade, a full Workhouse campus takeover in Lorton, and roughly half a dozen winery and pavilion concerts competing for your evening. The weather forecast looks cooperative, the farmers markets are deep into stone-fruit season, and if you've been waiting for the week to finally commit to "let's just go do something," this is it.

This Week

For Families

Summer reading kicks off with imaginative energy

Big Bounce America at Bull Run Special Events Center — Through Sunday, June 14 · Bull Run Special Events Center, Centreville

The world's largest bounce house, an obstacle course called The Giant, and a space-themed inflatable called airSPACE — this is the rare touring kid attraction that actually delivers on its marketing. Book the toddler session (ages 3 and under) if you've got little ones; the Junior session (ages 7 and under) is where most families land. Wear socks, bring water, and don't underestimate how wiped out everyone will be by hour two. It's leaving Centreville after Sunday, so this is the last weekend.

2026 Children's Summer Reading Festival — Saturday, June 13, 10:00 AM–1:00 PM · Fairfax County Government Center, Fairfax

The Fairfax Library Foundation throws this every June to kick off summer reading, and it's a genuinely smart morning out — author meet-and-greets, character appearances, crafts, and the all-important sign-ups for the library's summer reading program (which has real prizes). It's free, it's air-conditioned, and the Government Center has more parking than you'll ever need. Best for ages 4–10.

The SpongeBob Musical — Friday June 12 and Saturday June 13 at 8:00 PM, Sunday June 14 at 2:00 PM · Workhouse Arts Center, Lorton

Don't let the title fool you — this is a legitimately good show with songs by everyone from David Bowie to John Legend to They Might Be Giants, and the Workhouse production is the kind of thing that surprises parents who came in skeptical. The Sunday matinee is the move for younger kids; the evening shows skew tween-and-up. Pair it with the Block Party earlier in the day on Saturday for a full Workhouse day.

Date Night

The Bridge with Elizabeth's Furnace – Tribute to Led Zeppelin — Wednesday, June 11, 6:00 PM · Tarara Summer Concert Series, Leesburg

Tarara's summer concert series is one of those Loudoun rituals that locals quietly gatekeep, and the Led Zeppelin tribute is a perennial sell-out. Bring a low chair or blanket, pack a picnic (you can bring your own food, but wine has to be Tarara's), and arrive by 5:30 if you want a decent spot on the hill. The vineyard views as the sun drops behind the ridge are the actual draw — the music is just the excuse.

Ravel Dance Company presents Cinderella — Saturday, June 13, 4:00 PM · Capital One Hall, Tysons

A 4:00 PM ballet leaves the entire evening open, which is the smartest date-night structure of the week — show, then dinner in Tysons (Barrel & Bushel is right there, and they'll take a walk-in at 6:30). Capital One Hall is a beautifully designed room with no bad seats; if you're booking late, the balcony is actually preferable for dance. Dress is whatever — people range from sundresses to cocktail attire.

Live Music with Laura Cashman at Fleetwood Farm Winery — Saturday, June 13, 1:00 PM–4:00 PM · Fleetwood Farm Winery, Leesburg

Fleetwood is the Loudoun winery I send people to when they say they want the experience without the bachelorette-party energy of Stone Tower. Laura Cashman plays warm acoustic sets that work as background or foreground, the dog-friendly lawn is huge, and the Petit Manseng is the bottle to ask about. Reserve a table online — walk-ins on Saturdays are a gamble after 1:30.

NextStop Theatre's ONCE — Sunday, June 14, 2:00 PM · NextStop Theatre, Herndon

The Tony-winning musical staged in NextStop's intimate Herndon black box — and that intimacy is the whole point with ONCE, a show built around quiet moments between two people. It's a perfect Sunday afternoon date that ends in time for dinner in downtown Herndon. The pre-show bar opens 45 minutes early and they pour a decent glass of wine.

For Singles & Young Professionals

The Common Good Fest & 5K — Saturday, June 13, 11:00 AM–4:00 PM · Old Town Square / Commonwealth Brewing Co., Fairfax

A 5K that ends at Commonwealth Brewing — which is exactly the format that works if you want to show up alone, run, and be drinking a beer with strangers by noon. The wellness-vendor festival in Old Town Square keeps the energy going after the race, and Commonwealth's patio is one of the better afternoon hangs in Fairfax. Sign up for the 5K in advance; the festival itself is walk-up.

Disney vs Pixar Trivia — Tuesday, June 16, 6:30 PM · Lark Brewing Co., Aldie

Lark's trivia nights have become a genuine scene — a mix of regulars and newcomers, teams that are aggressively competitive about Pixar deep cuts, and an easy walk-in vibe that doesn't penalize you for arriving solo. Get there by 6:15 to grab a seat and form a team with whoever's nearby. The brewery's saison is the move.

Fab Fridays Live Music: The Side Men – 70s Yacht Rock — Friday, June 12, 7:30 PM · Reston Metro Plaza, Reston

Free outdoor concert literally at the Reston Metro stop, which means you can train in, drink without thinking about driving, and migrate to whatever Town Center bar afterward. The crowd is mostly Reston young-pros and the energy is post-work-week loose. Grab tacos from one of the trucks before the band starts.

Groups & Friends

Columbia Pike Blues Festival — Saturday, June 13, 12:00 PM–7:45 PM · Penrose Square, Arlington

Arlington's longest-running music festival, free, with a serious lineup that brings real blues musicians to a neighborhood square. The food vendors are the under-discussed strength here — Bob & Edith's Diner is steps away if the lines get long. Park at the Penrose garage and walk; street parking on Columbia Pike will eat your day. Bring a folding chair; the crowd that sets up by noon stays all afternoon.

Block Party! — Saturday, June 13, 3:00 PM–6:00 PM · Workhouse Arts Center, Lorton

The Workhouse campus opens up every studio, gallery, and outdoor space — artists working live, food, music, and a vibe that's a notch more interesting than your average community festival. Pair it with the SpongeBob matinee or the Second Saturday evening event and you've got a full day on the campus. Plenty of free parking, easy to wander as a group.

Reston Concerts on the Town – Herr Metal — Saturday, June 13, 7:30 PM · Reston Town Center Pavilion, Reston

The Saturday night Town Center concert series is one of the most reliable group hangs in Fairfax — free, dog-friendly, surrounded by every restaurant and bar you could want. Herr Metal does '80s metal covers (yes, the name is the joke), and the lawn fills up by 7:00. Grab dinner at Jackson's or Big Bowl beforehand, then walk over with drinks.

Cars & Coffee in Herndon — Saturday, June 13, 8:00 AM · Northwest Federal Credit Union, Herndon

The Herndon Cars & Coffee draws a serious crowd — Porsches, classic American iron, the occasional Lambo — and it's the kind of low-commitment Saturday morning thing that works whether you know anything about cars or not. Get there by 8:15; it thins out by 10. Coffee from the Green Lizard a few minutes away if you want to extend the morning.

All Ages & Pets

Loudoun Pride Festival — Saturday, June 6 (note: this date has passed; check source for any rescheduled programming) · Ida Lee Park, Leesburg

Ida Lee turns into one of the biggest community events of the Loudoun summer — live performances, food trucks, vendors, and a notably welcoming, family-and-dog-friendly atmosphere. Bring a blanket, sunscreen, and water for the pup; shade is at a premium by midday.

Leesburg Saturday Farmers Market — Saturday, June 13, 8:00 AM–12:00 PM · Virginia Village Shopping Center, Leesburg

Producer-only means everything you buy was grown, baked, or made by the person selling it — and in mid-June that means the first peaches, real strawberries, and the bread vendors at their peak. Arrive by 8:30 if you want first pick from Stoneyman Gourmet Farmer; the line at the breakfast taco stand becomes a problem by 9:30. Dogs welcome on leash.

EatLoco Farmers Market at Ashbrook — Saturday, June 13, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM · Ashbrook, Ashburn

EatLoco is bigger and more vendor-heavy than the Leesburg market — closer to a festival than a produce stop. Good for browsing with the dog, grabbing iced coffee, and bumping into half your neighbors. Parking is easy; just don't try to do this and Leesburg in the same morning.

Juneteenth & Liberty Amendments Month Parade & Festival — Saturday, June 13, various times · Downtown Vienna

Vienna does community events better than most NoVa towns, and this Juneteenth parade and festival is a real one — local performers, food, history programming, and the kind of small-town parade energy you don't get in bigger venues. Park near the W&OD Trail and walk in. Family- and dog-friendly throughout.

Standing Pick

Fleetwood Farm Winery — 7702 Lake Drive, Leesburg

If you've been making the rounds of Loudoun wineries and feeling a little jaded by the wedding-venue energy that's taken over the bigger players, Fleetwood is the antidote. It's a working farm winery on a quiet road south of Leesburg, with goats and chickens, a renovated stone farmhouse tasting room, and a sprawling lawn that's genuinely dog-friendly (they mean it — water bowls everywhere, regulars who bring their golden retrievers). The wines are real: the Petit Manseng is the one to ask about, and the Cabernet Franc is doing the kind of work you want from Virginia Cab Franc. They host live music almost every weekend through summer — this Saturday it's Laura Cashman from 1:00 to 4:00 — and the smart move is to reserve a table online ahead of time, bring a charcuterie board (they sell them) or your own picnic snacks, and plan to stay three hours. Arrive before 1:00 to beat the crowd in; the back porch tables go first.

Before You Go

- Weather — Saturday currently looks like upper 80s with afternoon sun; pack water for any outdoor festival and don't underestimate Ida Lee's lack of shade.

- Pro tip — If you're hitting both a farmers market and an afternoon winery on Saturday, do Leesburg market (8:00) → quick coffee at Shoes Cup & Cork → wineries by 1:00. The flow works; the reverse doesn't.

- Local resourceVisit Loudoun keeps the most accurate winery and event calendar in the county; bookmark it for last-minute weekend planning.
