Hyperion Espresso — 301 William Street, Downtown Fredericksburg

If you've lived here for more than six months, Hyperion is already in your rotation, but it's worth saying out loud: this is still the best independent coffee in the city, and the patio in June is one of the genuinely great places to sit and waste an hour in town. They roast their own beans, the espresso pulls are dialed in, and the breakfast sandwiches are simple but right. Get there before 9:30 on a weekend morning if you want one of the four sidewalk tables — by 10 it's a wait. Order the cortado and the bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant. The play this week: hit Hyperion early Saturday, walk three blocks to Hurkamp for the farmers market, then loop back through the galleries before noon. It's the platonic ideal of a Fredericksburg morning.
