"Rubberband Man," "I'll Be Around," "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love" — the harmonies still land, and the Ferguson's acoustics are among the best in Hampton Roads. If you've never been up to CNU for a show, the lobby is stunning and parking is genuinely easy (a rare Hampton Roads flex). Show up 30 minutes early to enjoy the space.

A morning fun-run/walk through the zoo before it opens to the public — you're basically running past sleeping lions and stretching lemurs. Stroller-friendly, dog-friendly (leashed), and admission to the zoo is included afterward. A perfect Sunday morning.

Local authors, indie booksellers, food trucks, and a Tradition pour in your hand. Low-key perfect Sunday plan whether you're 22 or 62. Free to browse.

An all-day aerial obstacle course event in the trees — zip lines, rope bridges, the whole deal. Bring closed-toe shoes and gloves if you have them. Great group plan for teens and college friend groups who want something more physical than another brewery afternoon.

Early-childhood play and storytime for caregivers with toddlers. Free.

The city's signature fall party takes over roughly 20 blocks of boardwalk with four stages, hundreds of vendors, an air show flyover, wine and craft beer gardens, and the Grand Parade Saturday morning. Park north (around 30th) or south (near Rudee) and walk in — the middle blocks are gridlocked by 10 a.m. Saturday. Come Friday night if you actually want to hear the music without shouting. Kids do best in the mornings before the crowds thicken; couples do best after 8 p.m. when the string lights kick on.

World-class sculptors from a dozen countries carve absolutely bonkers pieces inside a tented arena at the beach — think 12-foot dragons, portraits with individual eyelashes, whole cityscapes. It runs a full ten days, so if you can't fight the Neptune crowds this weekend, go on a weekday next week when you can actually get close and talk to the artists while they work. That's the move. Small admission fee, worth it.

This one is a hidden Friday-night gem — makers, candle-pourers, tarot readers, and a bunch of witchy-cozy vendors set up in and around the winery with wine flights flowing. Get the Chambourcin or the peach if you like something lighter. Bring a friend, arrive right at 6 before the parking fills, and plan to stay long enough to catch the courtyard string lights coming on.

Craft beer tasting inside the Harrison with live opera performers wandering the room — it's exactly as delightfully weird as it sounds, and one of the best "I didn't think I'd like opera" gateway events in the region. Great pre-game for whatever else you're doing on Granby that night.

Themed games-and-merchants night — cosplay-welcome, RPG-friendly, all-ages early and shifts to 21+ later. $10 gets you in the door. Great for the D&D group.

This is the ticket of the week and probably the season. Farm Aid rolling into Virginia Beach is a big deal — Willie, Neil, John, Dave and a rotating cast of Americana heavyweights bring an all-day lineup that runs from lunchtime into the night. Rideshare in or accept your fate on Dam Neck Road, because parking will be a full-contact sport. Bring a hat, sunscreen for the lawn seats, and cash for the HOMEGROWN Village food vendors — the whole point is that the food is from actual small farms. Do not skip the early sets; that's where the surprise collaborations happen.

The Peninsula's answer to Neptune weekend — a legit community Oktoberfest with brats, pretzels, German beer, oompah music, and enough space that the kids can actually run around. Way less crowded than anything happening on the Oceanfront.

Fall officially begins when Hunt Club opens. Hayrides, pumpkin patch, farm animals, live music on weekends, and the corn maze — a Hampton Roads childhood staple. Go opening weekend if you want mid-October pumpkin picks; go on a weekday afternoon in October if you actually want to enjoy it without lines.

Dogs launching themselves off a dock into a pool, chasing bumpers. This is the most reliably crowd-pleasing thing at Neptune, full stop. Bleachers fill up — arrive 20 minutes before a heat starts. Your own dog can spectate from the perimeter if leashed.

Shepherd at the Sandler is a pairing that shouldn't work as well as it does — arena-level blues-rock guitar in a room where every seat is genuinely good. This is the intimate way to see him. Get a drink at Commune or Croc's beforehand and walk over; the Town Center garages are your friend and it's a five-minute stroll. Balcony seats have the best sound.
